Thelma Amaya is a project manager at FLA. In 2022, Amaya joined FLA to support the implementation of the PREP 4 Change (P4C) project in El Salvador’s apparel sector. This initiative aims to prevent, mitigate, and remediate workplace illnesses and injuries through collaborative, impactful strategies.

Amaya is a labor rights expert with over 20 years of experience in monitoring working conditions, seeking alignment with local and international labor standards, and promoting social sustainability and responsible business practices. Her career in the garment and footwear supply chains across the Caribbean and the Americas has given her a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved in improving workplace conditions. She has also led the design and implementation of effective remediation strategies to address these challenges.

Amaya’s expertise spans engagement with a wide array of stakeholders, including companies, industry associations, government agencies, international organizations, labor groups, and unions. Her work is driven by a passion for fostering collaboration among diverse perspectives to drive sustainable improvements in working conditions and integrate sustainability as a core business value with measurable impacts worldwide.

Before joining FLA, Amaya worked with an FLA-accredited company, where she managed social and labor programs across the supply chain. Her work focused on human rights risk assessments, human rights due diligence (HRDD), women’s empowerment, worker grievance mechanisms, and occupational health and safety (OHS) risk assessments. She holds a certification in Responsible Business Conduct and OHS from the International Labour Organization (ILO). Amaya is based in El Salvador and speaks Spanish and English.
