Director, Civil Society Organization Engagement
Andrea Ackerman is FLA’s Director, Civil Society Organization Engagement. In her role, she manages FLA’s Civil Society Caucus, engages with stakeholders globally to identify collaborative opportunities to advance workers’ rights, and promotes civil society engagement across the organization. Ackerman also leads the development of best-practice guidance on social compliance topics and supports FLA’s work on gender equity.
Ackerman joined FLA in 2024, bringing extensive experience working across civil society on a range of issues including labor rights, migration, economic justice, and gender. She most recently worked at Panorama Global, a social impact nonprofit where she led a team responsible for overseeing relationships with civil society leaders, funders, and other stakeholders working collectively to solve global challenges.
Prior to Panorama Global, Ackerman worked on the fair work team and within the International Migration Initiative at the Open Society Foundations, where she managed grantmaking, advocacy, and campaigns to ensure vulnerable workers are employed under just and equitable conditions. There, she collaborated with global labor movement leaders, funders, governments, and civil society partners to maximize donor engagement and co-develop strategies for protecting workers, power-building, and implementing just transition frameworks. Her other experiences include working in political risk consulting and at CSOs focused on gender and economic inclusion.
Ackerman holds a master’s degree in global affairs from New York University, with concentrations in transnational security and gender in international relations, as well as a bachelor’s degree in political science from Georgia State University. She is based in Atlanta, GA.
