On September 9, 2024, 18 apparel, footwear, and travel brands sourcing from Cambodia – including several members of the Fair Labor Association (FLA) – issued a statement strongly urging the Cambodian government to immediately cancel its audit of the non-governmental organization CENTRAL, drop its criminal case against CENTRAL program manager Khun Taro, and ensure respect for civil society.
According to the signatories, “A vibrant civil society, guaranteed in part by freedom of speech, is a key part of what makes Cambodia an important sourcing partner for the apparel and footwear industry.”
On September 11, another brand signed on, bringing the total to 19.
