On July 10, 2024, the Fair Labor Association (FLA) hosted its summer virtual board meeting. At the convening, the FLA Board of Directors approved the application of Brooks Running to become an FLA Participating Company. The board also voted on procedures related to the use of the new Fair Labor Accreditation badge and on a major revision of the organization’s audit fee structure.
President and CEO Jeff Vockrodt began the event by welcoming the more than 85 member representatives in attendance and touched on a number of organizational updates in his opening address, including Richa Mittal’s recent promotion to Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer and FLA’s ongoing OECD alignment process.
FLA staff also updated attendees on plans to commemorate its 25th anniversary, which is centered around the theme of “The Future of Fair Labor.” As part of the celebrations, the organization is hosting a series of events in Istanbul in late October.
The day’s agenda closed out with an extended conversation between Sif Thorgeirsson, FLA Senior Vice President for Investigations and Engagement, and Ruben Zandvliet, Shift Project’s Deputy Director of Standards, where they dove into the European Union Council’s formal approval of the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the future of mandatory human rights due diligence. As Sif commented during the discussion, this is “a revolutionary moment for business and human rights.”
