FLA and 14 brands support freedom of association in Mexico
On July 28, 2017, as part of the Americas Group Mexico Committee initiatives, the FLA and fourteen apparel and footwear companies that source from Mexico submitted a letter to the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare of Mexico.
The letter congratulated the government for adopting new constitutional reforms to the labor justice system and expressed the hope that the implementing legislation will be accomplished expeditiously and that the new labor institutions will be composed of independent and objective experts that will help ensure the impartial, transparent, and efficient administration of labor justice.
The letter also emphasized the importance of the legislation to help to guarantee Mexican workers their internationally recognized rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining as protected under ILO Conventions 87 and 98.
